Why Orlando should top America’s list of Golf capitals

There are several heavy-duty reasons why Orlando should be one of the most preferred golfing destinations in America. Quantity, for one. There are anywhere between 100 and 150 courses in the greater Orlando area, depending on who you ask. Quality is another. Many of Florida's most heralded layouts call Orlando home, from Grande Lakes to Southern Dunes.

Save Thousands on your Disney World Vacation

Golf has a long and storied history in Orlando. But the most recent boom of modern, daily fee courses began in earnest in 1998. Fourteen new golf courses have been built in and around Orlando in the last six years, more than Myrtle Beach and Las Vegas during the same time period.

Orlando also has the backing of the top designers and architects in the field. World-class architects such as Jack Nicklaus, Pete Dye, Arnold Palmer,
Tom Fazio, Rees Jones, Robert Trent Jones, Dick Wilson and Joe Lee validate Orlando as a golf destination with the quality to match its huge quantities.

Further proof that this is truly one of America's golf capitals: Orlando plays host to two PGA Tour events and an LPGA tournament -- something few cities can claim. All three tournaments (The Bay Hill Invitational, the Walt Disney World National Car Rental, and the JC Penny After school Open) are held at courses open to the public. In fact, private courses are the exception around here and not the rule.

And before we forget to mention…. Orlando is the home of the Golf Channel, Tiger Woods, Arnold Palmer, top-notch golf schools, and the annual PGA Merchandise Show, which attracts nearly 50,000 industry professionals each year. The PGA headquarters and the World Golf Village are just a morning road trip away, as are the golf rich towns of Tampa and Daytona.
