Pinehurst - Golf Vacation to Pinehurst - North Carolina - US
After playing the legendary #2 on our first day, we gave the newest course at Pinehurst, #8, a try. #8 was built by Tom Fazio in 1996 to commemorate Pinehurst's centennial year. The greens and tees are close together, making it a pleasure to walk. As the site of the PGA Club Pro Championship in 1997 and 1998, it is a proven championship course that daunts and delights all who play it. A course not to miss on your trip to Pinehurst. A 82 for me and Dan torched the course for an even par 72.
We decided to take in one of the other area courses for a final round today. After playing #2, we both felt good about our game. After a brief lunch, we headed out 3 miles outside of pinehurst to play The Carolina, a spectacular new golf course designed by Arnold Palmer and Palmer Course Design Company. The Carolina course opened June 15, 1997, but you would feel like you are playing on a brand new golf course The course was in great shape which allowed us to play our best golf of the trip. Dan has a 70 and I shot a 79. A great day of Pinehurst golf completed.
Well for our final day of Golf at Pinehurst, we decided to take in a bit of the old and new. Course #4 was originally designed by Donald Ross in 1919, but a recent redesign by Tom Fazio in 2000 allowed Pinehurst to reopen #4 as a new course, that followed much of Donald Ross's original layout. Course #4 will be the Site of the 2008 U.S. Amateur and was a great course to end a great golf vacation.
If you are planning a golf trip, Pinehurst is without a doubt one of the best golf areas in the US. Do not miss it. Every course we visited was in very good shape. All of the amenities were in top shape. We did not stay at the Pinehurst Inn, but our hotel, minutes from the courses, was a nice place that worked very well for our families and our budget. Golfing in the Pinehurst area is expensive compared to what I am used to at my local course, but if you look for special offers provided by the local hotels or Pinehurst directly, you can have a great time without completely breaking the bank.
