Golf on the shore. Myrtle Beach - SC - US
One of the best golfing trips I have made was to Myrtle Beach South Carolina. Myrtle Beach is a city in Horry County, South Carolina, United States. Myrtle Beach is located in a region known as the Grand Strand, that stretches from Georgetown, South Carolina to Little River, South Carolina.
Of course this article is about Golf and Myrtle Beach has many great golf courses, but Myrtle Beach is known for many other things including its wide beaches, excellent seafood restaurants, and outlet-style shopping activities. For this and other reasons, Myrtle Beach attracts over 14 million visitors a year.
The Myrtle Beach area hosts over 120 golf courses. During our long weekend trip there, Dan and I only were able to play 2 courses, but we did enjoy a fun 4 rounds. Our first day out, we played two rounds at Myrtle Beach National. We started on the West Course, an Arnold Palmer designed course. We played from the Back tees and had an enjoyable day. Unless you carry a very low handicap, I would suggest playing one of the forward tees. The challenge of this course increases from the back tees, as the numerous doglegs, fairway bunkers and natural hazards come into play. Dan, who carries a 2 handicap, struggles with his course and shot an 83. Not a great way to start a golf trip. But for me, it was a great day. I rarely beat Dan, and my first round 80, made for much talk at the 19th hole.
After a brief break for lunch and a few cold ones, it was out to the King's North course at Myrtle Beach National. This was a very enjoyable round as the course has quite a few unique holes including the 3rd hole with its island green and SC shaped sandtraps.
The 18th hole, nicknamed "The Bull's-eye" by Golf Magazine, is an incredible hole. Over 40 sandtraps guard either side of the fairway and the green reaches out into a lake offering, at times, a very tempting pin placement.
Another fun round, but Dan paid me back for talking after the first round. He had a very nice 75, while I shot a 85.
We started our last day in Myrtle Beach at Indian Wells Golf Club. A very attractive course that is also very challenging to your game, Indian Wells Golf club with its newly renovated clubhouse, offers an unusual blend of rolling terrain, sand, water and trees.
You will likely use every club in your bag at this courses Hole #9, (a 410 yard par 4), has been named to the "Grand Strand's Dream 18". Dan was on fire this morning, shooting a very nice one under 71. I had a nice day a well, with a 78. The course did not seem like it was real easy, we just both seemed to enjoy the course and our scores showed it.
After completing our round at Indian Wells, we went across the street for a round at Indigo Creek Golf Club. I am not sure what the problem was at this course. It did not seem to be in very good shape when we played. Not being from around the area, I am not sure if they were doing work to the course, or had recently had a large outing that affected it. There is no doubt that the course has a nice layout, but you may want to look a little into it before you commit to playing here.
There are many fun things to do at Myrtle Beach other than golf which makes it a great place for a family vacation. This time the family was not on the trip with me, but I will bring them back some time in the future.
